HORIZION LINE
For my Kinder, first, second and 3rd graders please ask for a grown up to help you hold the ruler to make your lines! This is ok to have someone help you with this step as in normal art class in school, you would be turning to your elbow partner, the student sitting next to you to take turns helping hold the ruler.
Friendly reminder for my K-3 students as well, try not to make your pumpkins have "straight" lines on them, but rather lines that curve!
Good luck and happy creating!

Marker Snowmen
Week 11
Dec 3rd-12th
Project | Remote Art At home Week 11
ALL GRADES Kinder-5th
Hello VRA students! For your tenth assignment, you are being asked to create a winter snowman using the marker for paint technique! In art we have been spending some time throughout the grade levels discussing what "Cropping" in in art and in artwork. Crop means that we "don't see" all of an object and or drawing. The Artist chooses to only show a part or a section of their artwork. For this snowman, you will need to CROP the bottom part of your snowman! This means when you draw your snowman, the head and belly will be the largest part on your papers!
You will NEED 2 plates to trace for his head to create a perfect circle and one for the body! ASK YOUR PARENTS for the plates please!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Plate, pencil to trace, sharpie (MUST BE PERMANENT MARKER) Markers, water, water cup, markers, paper towel.
-
Use the smaller plate to draw the head of the snowman in the middle of the page.
-
Use the larger plate to draw the body of the snowman, slightly overlapping (behind) the head.
-
Draw in the eyes, smile & buttons with circles.
-
Draw the carrot nose as cone. You can use a yellow oil pastel to outline,(or crayon if you don't have pastels) then paint with orange paint later.
-
Draw all other details like hats, scarves, mittens, arms, & hills.
-
Use a brown oil pastel for the branch arms.
-
Outline everything in Sharpie.
-
Use a blue Crayola marker to draw a line INSIDE the outline of the head & body.
-
Use a paint brush & water to gently rub against the blue line, making it bleed into the head. Add more water if a harsh line is formed-the goal is for the color to fade into white (the color of the paper).
-
Use colored markers to color the buttons, scarves & mittens with the same bleeding process.
-
Let dry.
-
Use white oil pastels if you have them otherwise use crayon to draw snow & swirly lines (like Van Gogh’s Starry Night).
-
Finally, paint the background with watercolors & see the watercolor resist happen-Magic!
Please watch this quick demo video
to get you started!
(video is posted along left side) it's sped up a bit so pause as needed or watch it again and again as needed!
<---------------
Remember to check out all the pictures along this side bar to help give you ideas! Happy creating friends!
Friendly reminder to parents, you may help a little if needed, but please let your child do the tracing! 4th and 5th graders you are expected to do all your own tracing! I don't expect Kinder, 1st, or 2nd to have as detailed snowmen assignments as the example shown, but I do expect my 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to have something pretty close to the example.

Project | Remote Art At home Week 13
ALL GRADES Kinder-5th
Hello VRA students! Welcome back! Hopefully most of you have been able to return to face to face learning this semester!
Your first assignment of the new year is to create several snowfakes on watercolor paper using a salt techinque. Students will learn about radial symmetry and the formation of snowflakes. Then students will use this knowledge to create a watercolor-resist painting.
PARENTS PLEASE NOTE
If you haven't done so already, now would be a good time to buy a few art supplies that are the same of which we are using in the classroom.
A pack of water color paper from Michaels or walmart would be very helpful, a sharpie marker, and crayola water colors. This assignment will need specific art supplies.
I've done my best to use items you may have already had around your own home, but we are getting to the point in the school year where assignments are going to get more in depth and require more than just basic supplies.
For this assignment you will need:
Watercolor paper
Paintbrush
Water dish
paper towel
TABLE SALT
White Crayon or white oil pastel (HAS TO BE WHITE)

Project | Remote Art At home Week 17, 18 and 19th
ALL GRADES Kinder-5th
THIS IS A 3 WEEK PROJECT as it takes a week to dry!!!!
Hello VRA artists, this week's lesson is going to have you get really hands on! You will be creating your own clay project by making the clay out of salt dough.
**********In the first video it will tell you to bake in the oven for 3 hours. You WILL NOT do this step. Instead, you will place your project outside preferably in the sun to air dry for a week. ******
Please watch both video tutorials for the lessons. You may pick either of the videos as your assignment. For the hand bowl project, you do NOT need an exacto knife or board, in real art class we use sharp pencils as our tools to cut (trace around the hands/fingers) Just a heads up on that part!
For this assignment you will need:
First WEEK:
Salt 1/4 cup
Flour 1/2 cup
Mixing Bowl and spoon
Cutting board
Water 1/4 cup
Parchment paper
Possible cookie cutters (for younger K-2 friends)
Pencil (is used a a good hole poker and to trace/cut around the fingers of your hand bowl should you do that project)
WEEK 2 (PROJECT DRIES ALL WEEK)
3rd Week you will need:
Acrylic Craft paint (the tiny bottles from walmart work splendid!)
paint brush
Mod Podge (not necessary but really is the best part it's what gives your clay project that magic shine! Just as if you were using real glaze in art class!) If you don't use it, your clay will just have paint with a matte surface to it, no shine.
(Both Mod Podge and Acrylic paint are both sold at walmart, amazon and target for super cheap prices)
FOR THIS PROJECT I AM ASKING YOU to submit a PHOTO OF YOU in the picture actually making your salt dough! This needs to be done to receive credit on padlet! I should see two pictures, one of you making the dough, and another of your final project!

Hello amazing VRA artists! As it should of been communicated to you through schoolgy and through your new online teachers, all art assignments can now be found on a Bitmoji classroom depending on your grade. I will link each grade level here. Make sure you still remember to put your name on the ticket and your teacher, home school, etc etc.
If you are missing assignments, I will continue to leave the assignments up on this page from previous weeks, and you will need to upload those to padlet, but from here on out till June, you'll only be submitting an exit ticket for credit.
